BAKKAFROST
COMMUNITY BENEFIT FUND

ABOUT THE FUND

The Bakkafrost Community Benefit Fund is a one‑off community benefit arising from the private‑wire project undertaken by Bakkafrost and Foster Turner. The fund of £200,000 is held and administered by Bakkafrost, who make the final decisions on which projects receive support.

Dòchas does not distribute this fund.

Our role is to act as the community intermediary, gathering Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from Applecross residents and organisations and passing forward those that meet the criteria agreed with Bakkafrost.

Dòchas was asked by the Applecross Forum, Applecross Trust, Applecross Community Company, Applecross Community Council, and representatives from Bakkafrost and Foster Turner to act as the intermediary body for this fund.

CURRENT STATUS

The current round of EOIs has now closed - the deadline for submitting an EOI was the 31st of December 2025.

Three EOIs have been invited to submit full applications:

Other proposals may be considered in the future, if the existing EOIs are not taken forward by Bakkafrost.

If further funding rounds become available, information will be published here and shared through:

  • The Applecross Forum Meetings

  • The Applecross Community Council

  • Local noticeboards and online channels

All residents are welcome to participate in these community bodies, where discussions and decisions relating to community matters take place.

WHO CAN APPLY

EOIs are open to:

  • Individuals who live in Applecross

  • Community groups

  • Local organisations

  • Partnerships or collaborations that benefit the community

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

For questions about the process or future rounds, please contact: dochasapplecross@gmail.com

1. Expression of Interest (EOI)  â€‹

Residents and organisations submit a short EOI outlining their idea, estimated costs, and expected community benefit. Deadline for these applications was 31st December 2025.

2. Initial Review by Dòchas (CURRENT STAGE)

Dòchas reviews EOIs to ensure they meet the agreed criteria. Eligible EOIs are invited to submit a full application.

3. Full Application

Applicants provide detailed information, including:

  • Full project description

  • Costings and budget

  • Delivery plan

  • Community benefit

  • Any supporting information

4. Submission to Bakkafrost

Dòchas forwards completed applications to Bakkafrost for final consideration.

5. Final Decision

Bakkafrost reviews all applications and decides which projects to fund.

Bakkafrost have suggested that first payments could be made as early as April 2026.

Is this the same as the Applecross Community Fund?

No. The Applecross Community Fund is managed directly by Dòchas as a SCIO.

The Bakkafrost Fund is separate and held by Bakkafrost.

Can individuals apply?

Yes — individuals and organisations can submit EOIs.

Can I still submit an EOI?

Unfortunately EOIs are no longer being accepted or considered.
